Heartfelt Blessings is a free, daily email service designed to send a little goodness out without any kind of agenda or cost attached. Created by Kate Nowak, Heartfelt Blessings is part of the World
Wide Blessing Project she created in early 2006 as a way of reaching out to bless the world. To learn more about the project and how you can be involved, please visit the project's interactive site

It is said an Eastern monarch once charged his wise men to invent him a sentence to be ever in view, and which should be true and appropriate in all times and situations. They presented him the words: 'And this, too, shall pass away.' How much it expresses! How chastening in the hour of pride! How consoling in the depths of affliction!
Abraham Lincoln
Whatever is happening in your life at this moment, whether it is good or bad, a triumph or a tragedy — whatever it is — it soon will pass. When we realize how fleeting each precious moment is, we begin to appreciate them more, accepting the gift or the lesson each brings to us. If we perceive it to be good we can embrace it fully, knowing it will all too soon be gone. If we believe it to be displeasing, we can breathe easy, content that in a moment this, too, shall pass away.
We did not come here to race through our moments, but to live our way through them, gloriously. Each and every one.
May you always be aware of and grateful for every changing moment.
And may you also be aware that you are loved beyond measure and a cherished blessing to me.
Until tomorrow, may your day be filled with all things good,
Kate

While publishing a magazine several years ago, I was going through a particularly stressful time, and though I was unaware of it, I apparently muttered "This, too, shall pass" under my breath frequently. This was pointed out to me when one of the members of my board of directors and one of my employees both presented me with a beautiful little book entitled "This, too, shall pass." Both said they'd seen it advertised on television and had immediately thought of me because that was what I said -- as the employee put it -- "with every other breath."
I don't know if the book is available any longer, but I do know the truth still stands. No matter what the difficulty, it's a passing thing and need cause no lasting concern. And that which will not concern us ten years from now, need not bother us today.

I believe there are many, many paths to God --
probably as many as there are people to follow them -- and though I
certainly respect your right to your opinion, I'm afraid I must
disagree with your assertion that my thinking is not biblical. Having
grown up in a traditional Christian home and having been a student of
the Bible for many, many years, I personally believe my thinking is in
perfect alignment with the Bible. It may not, however, be in perfect
alignment with what some others teach as biblical teachings. I think
that's probably where the difference lies.
The Bible, after all, does emphatically state that we are all children of God. All of us. (Psalms 82:6 -- "I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.")
In fact it was that "Ye are Gods," part, you may remember, that got
Jesus is hot water with the Sanhedrin, so apparently he thought we were
children of God, too.
Besides, not only does the Bible say we
all have God within us, but basic genetic science also teaches that
each child carries a parental "spark" in his DNA, so why would we not,
as children of the most High God, not have a spark of our creator
within us? I can't think of a reason why. Can you?
One of the
reasons I have insisted that religion be kept out of the Blessings
Project is precisely because I do not want anyone to feel excluded
either from unconditional love or from the ability to be blessed and be
a blessing to others. The Bible tells us that God loves us all
unconditionally, but unconditional love is not exclusively a Christian
teaching. Love, in fact, is a the hallmark of all of the world's
greatest religions.
All of the great prophets down through
the ages have taught their followers about love, Donna. Everyone of
them. Muhammad taught it. Buddha taught it. Lao Tsu taught it. Krishna
taught it. Abraham taught it. And Jesus taught it. They may have spoken
in different languages, they may have taught in different time frames
and they may have taught in different localities, but semantics and
location aside, the message has remained remarkably the same: Love is
God and God is Love.
If we are to have any hope of saving
ourselves and our world from hatred, bigotry and separation, we must
recognize this fact and stay open to it. Jesus wasn't a Christian,
Donna and he didn't label or limit anyone. He was only interested in
teaching his followers to connect to the God (the Kingdom) within. His
message was about allowing Love to make a supreme and lasting
difference in the world. That billions should be banished -- many of
whom who have never even heard his name -- just so a few might
find salvation by standing in a church and professing him as their
savior, I do not think, was ever Jesus' goal.
But as long as
people of any religion insist on holding onto a separatist attitude, I
believe our entire world will suffer the consequences. As long as we
insist the devil is in this person or that person, we will see the
devil everywhere we go. If we re ever to heal, if we are to ever know
world peace, we have to be willing to stop hunting the devil in others
and start seeking God in ourselves. And when we find God in us, we will
very quickly notice, just as Jesus taught, that God is in everyone
else, as well.
